Making a sustainable future possible at Chevron’s City to Surf

Whether you’re running the marathon through Perth’s beautiful city streets, or walking a brisk 4km’s along Albany’s stunning coastline, all you need to enjoy the great outdoors is just you and a pair of runners. So don’t let rubbish and single-use plastic ruin one of life’s simple pleasures.

This year Cleanaway is again working with Chevron City to Surf to deliver waste and recycling services across the series. Here are a few ways you can help us make a sustainable future possible as you go for a personal best in this year’s race.

Bring your own water bottle. Hydrating before the run is key to going the distance, but disposable water bottles make it hard for the environment to recover post-race. Bring your own water bottle along on the day and use the bag drop facilities provided so you can rehydrate again afterwards and avoid single-use water bottles.

Use the recycling services provided. Cleanaway are providing dedicated recycling bins along the course so make sure you use the right bin. Banana peels and electrolyte gel wrappers go in the general waste bin, and coffee cups and plastic bottles go in recycling.

Perth is home to the southern hemisphere’s most advance Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Guildford. All recycling collected at the Chevron City to Surf will be sorted through Cleanaway’s new MRF and processed for recycling, or reuse as a commodity.

Watch now to see how the Perth MRF sorts eight streams of recycling:
