Ambassador Stories

Jenny

Activ customer Jenny is swapping her dance shoes for sneakers as she prepares for this year’s Chevron City to Surf for Activ.

Jenny, who lives with autism and other medical issues, is proud to be an ambassador for the event this year. She is usually in the spotlight as part of Activ Heartbeats’ performing arts stage shows but will add walking and running training to her repertoire for the next few months to prep for our 50th anniversary event with her mum. Read Jenny’s full story.

Jordan

Jordan’s musical talents are inspiring to all who get the opportunity to hear him perform.

His ability to captivate his audience, whether in the community or at home with family and friends, is one of many ways Jordan shares his determined spirit. Living with disability since an accident in 2022, his drive to set goals and achieve them has motivated him during his lengthy rehabilitation.

It’s this determination that will also see him aim to complete the 4km Chevron City to Surf for Activ this year as a proud ambassador for the event. Read more about Jordan.

Dennis

2024 Chevron City to Surf ambassador and wheelchair racer Dennis is challenging WA’s wheelchair user and racing community to join him at this year’s 50th anniversary event, as he tries to match his 2023 12km wheelchair race winning time.

He says the iconic WA event has maintained its presence over the years as an important event in the calendar because it offers a challenging and scenic course that can be walked or raced, on foot or in a chair. Read Dennis’ story.

David

Activ customer David is a proud ambassador for this year’s Chevron City to Surf for Activ. The self-proclaimed superstar is already in training for the event with his Activ support worker, taking walks in the park across the road from home to prepare for the big day.

David brings a surge of energy everywhere he goes, including his local Activ Community Hub. Whether he’s catching up with friends or diving into new experiences, his radiant smile is truly contagious! Read more about David.

Ollie

Every number tells a story, and for 5-year-old Ollie, those numbers helped him become the top fundraiser for the 2023 Chevron City to Surf for Activ. A little hero with a gigantic love for digits, he raced past his fundraising goals.

Ollie experiences life through the unique lens of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). For Ollie and his family, autism is not a disorder but a superpower – where keen attention to detail, memory, and a willingness to help define his character. He is aiming for even bigger fundraising targets in 2024! Read Ollie’s full story.

Chris

Chris is a spirited Activ Support Worker by day and stand-up comedian by night! His enthusiasm is contagious, and he is excited to be a 2024 Chevron City to Surf Ambassador to encourage everyone to be part of the event.

His wit is as quick as his run speed! Look out for his unique ways of inspiring customers, families, staff and community members to support Activ by registering for the iconic event. Read Chris’ story.

Alison and Bob

2024 is glittered in golden celebrations for ambassadors Alison and Bob, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and Bob’s 50th run in the Chevron City to Surf for Activ! Alison has been by Bob’s side in most of the events across the decades (minus a few), the couple sharing their love or running and community events throughout their married life.

They’ve built a phenomenal tradition of supporting Activ by running in the event and generously donating, all to support Activ to provide services for people living with disability. Read Alison and Bob’s story.

Grace

Grace’s favourite memory of the 2023 Chevron City to Surf for Activ was receiving a medal at the finish line. Watching and cheering her family on from the sidelines with her aunty, Grace who lives with epilepsy and microcephaly, was proud to be part of the event supporting her family and is aiming to take part in the 4km event this year as an ambassador.

Planning to team up with her mum and brother on the big day, Grace is looking forward to the fun she will have walking the event – and of course the prized medal at the finish line to add to her collection! Read more about Grace.

Phil

Phil will proudly run in his 50th Chevron City to Surf for Activ as an ambassador in 2024. His commitment to keeping up his tradition of running the event every year since 1974 is inspiring to everyone participating.

He and Bob have built a friendship based on our iconic event and catch up each year to run the course.

Phil champions the importance of a healthy lifestyle and supporting organisations such as Activ Foundation and supporting people living with disability to live the life they choose. Read Phil’s story.

Jayme

Despite running nearly the equivalent of our 12k course during a WAFLW game, Chevron City to Surf ambassador Jayme Harken is adding in extra off-field training in preparation for this year’s event. Jayme says game dynamics are a different kind of fitness, running 8-10kms includes lots of rest stops, unlike the Chevron City to Surf for Activ course where endurance is key. The Claremont player will instead take to the popular running paths at Lake Monger and Herdsman Lake with her one-year-old Kelpie cross puppy Tilly to train for the event.

Jayme is proud to be an ambassador this year, a role she says combines her two passions, physical fitness and ensuring everyone has the same opportunities in life.

Look out for Jayme and Tilly on the local training tracks in the next couple of months as she preps to take on the 12km course with friends, family and teammates from Claremont – hopefully she can keep up with Tilly’s energy during training! Read Jayme’s full story.

Hamish

The 4km Chevron City to Surf for Activ will hopefully be part of ambassador Hamish Brayshaw’s path to a coveted WAFL premiership this year! The East Perth player will be playing for the Royals the day before his run in the 4km, saying he will use the event as a fun way to take to a different running track as he looks toward WAFL finals opportunities for him and his team.

Some would say Hamish was born to play footy, growing up with his dad playing the game and his brothers following in his footsteps. He says he started playing footy as soon as he could walk and now as seasoned player in AFL and WAFL ranks, the 2023 Sandover Medallist is aiming for premiership glory with his teammates.

Hamish is encouraging East Perth players and fans to register for this year’s Chevron City to Surf.

“You’re raising money for a great cause, you’re getting your body moving, and it gets you involved in a massive community event in WA – you’ll get to enjoy the festivities of what will be a really fun day in Perth!” Read Hamish’s full story.

Emily

We’ve chalked up a striker of an ambassador in ex-Hockeyroo captain Emily Chalker for this year’s 50th anniversary Chevron City to Surf for Activ!

Emily’s stellar decade as a Hockeyroo saw her play a phenomenal 255 games, wear the green and gold at three Olympic Games, win gold and silver for Australia at the Commonwealth Games and captain the side for four years. Since retiring, Emily has taken on volunteer roles in the hockey industry while working in the corporate world and now combines volunteering with being a stay at home mum to her toddler Pippa.

You will be seeing a lot more of Emily in the lead-up to the event, including on the course in Perth as she takes on the 4km with her family! Read more about Emily.

Brant

Paralympian Brant Garvey is joining our team as an ambassador for our 50th anniversary Chevron City to Surf for Activ!

Brant made history as the first above-knee amputee to conquer the challenging Ironman Triathlon in Australia and has also seen success in an impressive list of para-triathlon World Series events.

He debuted the sport of Triathlon at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, saying a big part of that journey was inspiring others to do things they didn’t think were possible.

“Disability has been a big part of my life, so part of my story is being an ambassador for people with disability and showing the world that we can do incredible things with the right mindset.

Brant now works as a keynote speaker and mentor, inspiring and motivating clients all over the world. Read more about Brant.
