Bob (82) participated in the inaugural City to Surf in 1974, joining 500 other runners in what was the start of an iconic WA community tradition like no other. He remembers the enthusiasm and positivity around him during the race from start to finish.
Since then, he has kept up his annual tradition of taking part in the event, seeing it as a great way to show the couple’s support of Activ Foundation and the services it provides to people living with disability, while connecting with people from across Perth to reach their individual goal of getting to the finish line.
“There’s an electric atmosphere on the day,” Bob says.
“And it’s all to raise money for Activ Foundation, which makes everyone’s participation even more meaningful – it’s the perfect combination of personal achievement, community support and celebration – and we love it,” he says.
As the 50th anniversary Chevron City to Surf for Activ approaches, Bob is determined prepare for the event with realistic goals in mind.
“I plan to start gradually, stay upright and hydrated, and cross the finish line with a smile.”
Meanwhile, Alison, at 77, will reminisce about the ease of running when she was younger.
“But I am absolutely resolute in completing the race, with a mix of running and walking.”
Join Bob and Alison at this year’s event and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Chevron City to Surf for Activ.
