Meet Emily

We’ve chalked up a striker of an ambassador in ex-Hockeyroo captain Emily Chalker for this year’s 50th anniversary Chevron City to Surf for Activ!

Emily’s stellar decade as a Hockeyroo saw her play a phenomenal 255 games, wear the green and gold at three Olympic Games, win gold and silver for Australia at the Commonwealth Games and captain the side for four years. Since retiring, Emily has taken on volunteer roles in the hockey industry while working in the corporate world and now combines volunteering with being a stay at home mum to her toddler Pippa.

Emily is looking forward to taking on the 4km course at this year’s Chevron City to Surf for Activ as an ambassador, set to participate with her family and enjoy the festivities of the day.

“My goal is to run four kilometres without stopping! So there will be no record breaking for me this year,” she says.

“As with hockey, I look forward to this becoming a new tradition for me. This is my first time in the Chevron City to Surf for Activ and I am excited for this to be the first of many.”

As an ambassador, Emily is encouraging people to sign up and support the event, whether it’s for fun with the family, as a corporate team member or for a sporting challenge.

“I wanted to help spread the message of not only participating, but the importance of fundraising so people living with disability can continue to benefit from supports and services provided by Activ.”

“Coming from a team sport and large-scale organisation, I hope to encourage sports teams, community groups and organisations to pull a team together, register for the run, have some fun, and do some fundraising to help us achieve our fundraising goal. In my opinion, having a team to run with will make the event even more enjoyable.”

“Sign up and take part in the event – not only will you be proud of yourself for participating, you will enjoy a fun-filled morning. Most importantly, you will be helping to improve the lives of people living with disability in WA.”
