Chevron City to Surf for Activ ambassador Grace is looking forward to reaching the finish line at this year’s event and getting a much-prized participation medal to add to her collection.
Grace cheered her family on from the sidelines of last year’s event. Her mum Andrea and brother Henry were proud of Grace supporting them across the finish line, cheering alongside her aunty as they saw each of them finish.
Andrea says Grace was very excited to receive a medal on the day and is keen to take part in 2024 with her family by her side.
“The cause behind the City to Surf is close to my heart and my life, so fundraising in the lead up to it was an easy process,” Andrea says.
She says sharing their family’s story of living with disability on social media was one of the ways they encouraged people to support Activ by donating to the event.
“As Grace gets older it will be organisations like Activ that will come in to help. When Grace was six weeks of age, we were told she wouldn’t be able to walk or feed herself – now, she holds a knife and fork better than Henry!”
“We will lean on Activ in the future to help support us. The aim would be for Grace to prepare for the worst but enjoy the best and look to gain independence as much as possible.”
Grace’s determination is inspiring to her family and friends, and it’s this determination that will see her aim to take on the 4km Chevron City to Surf for Activ.
Henry is encouraging everyone to register and fundraise for this year’s event.
“Sponsor people and help people like my sister and some kids in my school, they could help them out as well by fundraising,” he says.
“If you do the City to Surf it will help lots of people, I know I helped a few last year with donations we got.”
Andrea says their family has big goals for 2024, with fundraising goals set and getting set to walk the 4km route and celebrate crossing the finish line together.
