Some would say Hamish was born to play footy, growing up with his dad playing the game and his brothers following in his footsteps. He says he started playing footy as soon as he could walk and now as a seasoned player in AFL and WAFL ranks, the 2023 Sandover Medallist is aiming for premiership glory with his teammates.
Hamish grew up in Victoria, playing for his local club in the juniors and the Sandringham Dragons in the TAC Cup. He made the big move west in 2017 when he was drafted to the West Coast Eagles where he made his debut in a memorable win against St Kilda. He’s been playing for East Perth’s WAFL team for the past few years, combining his footy with an off-field career.
He’s proud to be a Chevron City to Surf for Activ ambassador because the event aligns with two big parts of his life, being active and playing sport.
“I’m hoping I can use this platform to get people involved in something special like the City to Surf, get active themselves and raise money for a really good cause,” he says.
“The Chevron City to Surf for Activ is right towards the end of the WAFL season so I’ve only signed up for the 4km. My training will be normal footy training, I’m not doing the 12km because I think I’ll get around about that the day before on the field.”
“I’m hoping I’ll be joined by a whole heap of East Perth and other WAFL supporters signing up to join their club’s fundraising efforts.”
He’s encouraging footy players and fans across Perth to sign up and join the fun of the day.
“You’re raising money for a great cause, you’re getting your body moving, and it gets you involved in a massive community event in WA – you’ll get to enjoy the festivities of what will be a really fun day in Perth!”
“Whether it’s training or fundraising, everything is easier with friends, the more the merrier – so grab your mates and get involved!”
