The Lunchtime Workout

It’s too easy to get stuck at your desk all day, jumping from task-to-task or moving from one meeting to the next. Despite our best efforts, exercise is often the first thing to fall to the wayside during a busy workday.

Not only is sitting all day bad for you (and your training efforts), even a really small dose of exercise is good for us! In fact, it’s proven to improve our productivity and creativity. But unlike eating or sleeping, exercise isn’t something we do every day without thinking. We need to plan it, otherwise, it just won’t happen.

At the HQ for Chevron City to Surf for Activ, we like to think outside the box. With the help of our ambassador Brant, we’ve come up with some easy ways you can sneak some exercise into your workday.

1. Start Small

Similar to any new goal or objective it’s important to start small and scale up as you progress. Take a look at your Monday to Friday week and pick a day which is ‘typically’ less busy than the others. This will be your best opportunity to get out of the office during lunch and do some exercise; whether it’s a walk, a run or 5x up the office stairs to the 10th floor – it’s a great workout!

Most importantly, put it in your diary and don’t ignore! Not sure where to exercise in the Perth CBD? We’ve put together a list of our favourite locations, check out our Favourite Training Locations in the Perth CBD

2. Movement Meetings

Ever considered swapping the boardroom for a walk or even a run? We call them Movement Meetings and they’re great! Movement Meetings remove formality and create the opportunity to think a little differently. This might not always be possible due to practicality of location or resources needed, but you’d be surprised how much of your meeting time could be spent moving. Suggest this to your team and set the trend!

3. Exercise Commute

It takes a bit of planning but have a look at your daily commute and see if you could get off the bus or train 1-2 stops earlier. Jumping off early and running or walking for the rest of your journey is an easy way to add some extra kilometres into your workout week, without overburdening your schedule.

You’ll save time and arrive home without your workplace stresses or concerns. Invest in a well-supported backpack and you’ll be on your way!

Stepping away from your desk for 30 minutes a day with the aim of elevating your heart rate can relieve stress, improve creativity and improve communication within your office. Hopefully, we’ve provided a little inspiration and a reminder of how vital regular exercise is.

And, if you want to get your workforce up and moving in the next couple of weeks then sign-up for Chevron City to Surf for Activ as a Corporate Team. There’s 4KM, 12KM, 21KM and 42KM race options available so there’s an event for everyone, and you can all celebrate together at the finish line!
